Window Washers
by dontplaceliterature inquestion:.
why do i see so frequently the witnesses referred to as "window washers" on here?
i have been a witness (though only recently "conscious") for my whole life.

WOW....i am almost scared to post .I am surprised to find that a thread about window cleaners has generated so much heat.
Can i just add that just because someone is a window cleaner that does not mean that they dont have others strings to thier bow. My jw window cleaning partner was a qualified accountant. He aslo dabbled in stocks and shares, and when he died a few years ago it was found that he had about fifteen standing orders giving money to various Charities. He also mastered the German language as well as becoming an acomplished athlete/runner. This and much more while plying his trade. I should add that he became an ex jw.
I remember many years ago a scruffy old man who used to come around the streets where i lived on a bicycle that was adapted in a way that meant he could sharpen knives. For a small amount of money he would sharpen your kitchen knives. Some people would laugh at him, thinking him a nobody. After work he would go to the pub and enjoy a few drinks. He kind of kept himself to himself. I still recall how one night in a very crowded pub he strolled over to the piano. This raised a few chuckles....until he started playing. People stared in wonder, it was a bit like a Susan Boyle moment, he made the piano speak. He then closed the lid and without a word finished his drink and left.
Sad to see such animosity between posters. We are all fellow travellers with a story to tell. And we can enrich each others lives by sharing our stories. Peace....

I dont get in here very often but since it is snowing today and i have time on my hands i popped in. And what do i find?, a discussion about my trade. I took up window cleaning/washing way back in the early seventies. The idea was that i would have time to pioneer in the short time left until the end in 1975. And so along with another brother we set up our buisness. One month i would work full time and he would temporary pioneer, and the next month i would do so, and we would split the cash and support each other.
I thought, this will do me until 1975. And yet here i am all these years later and still at it. What can i say?. The job has had its ups and downs, and sometimes its a bit of a pane, but on the whole its been a great job. I have raised my children and dont owe anyone a bean. I have enjoyed being my own boss and have also, especially when younger and fitter, made decent money.
And there is far more to being a window cleaner than meets the eye. I reckon you become more like a social worker, always on hand to help people in thier time of need. I have made numerous friends which has meant being invited to weddings and other functions. I have also shared in the grief and sorrow of those who have lost loved ones. I have experienced the joy of seeing children born, then grow and have thier own children. Its also been sad to lose so many friends having spent almost forty years helping them "let the sun shine in".
But here i am after all these years and coming to the end of my time as a "visual optical engineer". Sadly it may soon be time to hang up my tools and put my ladder away. Forty years of going up and down in the world has taken its toll. While the spirit is willing the flesh is now weak. Who would have thought all those years ago that i would still be at it?. Mind you if the end was close in 1971/2, then it must be much closer now.......only joking.
I wonder if the snow has stopped?. Hopefully not, looks like i will have to stay in and tough it out and keep warm with a nice drop of single malt. Cheers to all fellow visual engineers.

Hi Grace, just popped in and seen this. Glad to hear you are okay. Us oldies need to be careful in the snow. Working outside on my own, as i do, my family insist i have a cell phone. The trouble is i either let the battery run flat or leave it in the car when i am working. Or if it rings when i am at the top of my ladder i almost fall off trying to get it, or it stops ringing when i do, and then i cant see it because i have left my reading glasses in the car. The only good thing is that we all want to get old..because the alternative is to die.
Anyway greetings from snowy now raining Manchester. Be careful and keep well.

Getting my children out
by God_Delusion inmy wife is still in and no matter what logic i show her, she still wants to continue with the cult.
for me, she's a lost cause.
i explained the 607 factor and her reaction to that was "well, that isn't important to me as i still believe, plus, there's no where else for me to go.".

Ex-Witnesses in Ireland...
by jdhf inhey there....i've been noticing that there are quite a few support groups in other countries for those who leave the 'truth'.
i am appealing to those who are in the emerald isle to see if there is any chance we can get together and enjoy 'real' association, being of same minds etc.
anyway... i will put this out there and hopefully those in ireland will get in touch and we can support each other!
